A Lancing teenager who launched a vicious, unprovoked attack on a mother and toddler failed to turn up for a probation service appointment.

Deanne Daly landed herself back in court after breaching a community rehabilitation order for the assault on the woman and her two-year-old son in November 2001.

The 19-year-old, of Park Avenue, was drinking with a group of friends in the street.

When the woman asked them to tone down their language, Daly screamed at her, then punched and kicked her to the ground.

The victim lost hold of her son, who was forced into the road.

When brought to trial, Daly was ordered to abide by a curfew and told to pay compensation to her victim.

She said she had been drinking vodka and alcopops since 10am on the day of the attack.

Worthing magistrates heard that the defendant had kept out of trouble since then but missed an appointment last August.

Magistrate Paul Tain, who presided over the original trial, sentenced her yesterday to 60 hours' community service.

He told her: "This was a very nasty case but I recognise you have hardly put a foot wrong since.

"I am hoping that this time you will do us all a favour, get these hours out of the way and get this case over with."
