Simon Rodger looks like missing Albion's trip to Coventry on Saturday after a training setback.

The Seagulls were optimistic Rodger would be available for the visit to Highfield Road.

Those hopes were more or less dashed by a training session yesterday as the midfielder battles to recover from further damage to his broken big left toe, sustained at Norwich on Boxing Day.

Boss Steve Coppell revealed: "He is going to be struggling. It was still painful while he was running.

"He is desperate to try and get fit, but you can't speed up a break. We were expecting him to run freely, but he's got pain on turning and he hasn't kicked a ball yet, so it's asking a great deal for him to be fit for Saturday.

"It's a day to day thing, so it's difficult to say when he will be back.

"I think he may have caught sight of Jamie Redknapp with a broken toe on the beach in Barbados! Simon has been trying to play with a broken toe which shows the different levels in football now."

Charlie Oatway, Rodger's deputy on the left side of midfield when Albion snatched a 2-2 home draw against Burnley in their last outing ten days ago, is suspended on Saturday after collecting five cautions.

Coppell said: "Sometimes things like that clear the waters for you. When you have got options they can be really muddy."

Gary Hart, ruled out of last Saturday's wasted FA Cup journey to Norwich by a stomach upset, trained yesterday with no ill-effects.

Albion's incentive for beating Norwich in next Tuesday's re-run of the tie called off following a power cut at Carrow Road is a home clash in round four against Dagenham and Redbridge or Plymouth on January 25.

Coppell said: "If we get through then it's a good draw, but that is a huge hurdle for us.

"It could also be a huge banana skin, which psychologically would have a massive negative effect, but it's a long way off, a couple of weeks and at least 90 minutes of football."

Dagenham, mid-table in the Conference, also host Plymouth, tenth in Division Two, next Tuesday after former Albion forward Junior McDougald equalised in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Home Park.

Supporters with a ticket from Saturday's game who are unable to travel to Carrow Road next Tuesday can obtain a full refund by calling 0870 4441902. Norwich will be handing out £2 refreshment vouchers to away fans when the tie is re-staged.
