An extra large selection of dancefloor action this week, from The Zap's 18th birthday to a regular Sunday night.

THE ZAP, Brighton, December 7
The Zap comes of age and, to celebrate 18 years of packing in the punters, it's having a big bash to celebrate. The whole shebang started in 1984 when architect Anthony Browne converted two of the arches on the seafront into a performance arts club. In 1996 he extended the arts centre and night club by adding another two arches, which included a gallery space and an extra bar area, resulting in the Zap we know today. Stomp started performing on the streets of Brighton but debuted at the Zap, while other well-known artists to have played there include Oasis, Cranberries, Carl Cox, Goldie, Boo Radleys, Supergrass, Spiritualised and, of course, Norman Cook, otherwise known as Hove-based DJ Fatboy Slim. Depending on who you listen to, past punters of the nightspot are rumoured to have included the likes of Paula Yates, Richard E Grant and Kylie Minogue. While tomorrow's party should include owners, promoters, performers and VIP guests from the Zap's past and present, it also marks the start of a new night, Saturday at the Zap, with DJs including Tim Deluxe and Paul Woolford. Admission is from 10pm onwards and costs £10/£8. Tel: 01273 202407.

RUDE, The Zap, Brighton, December 6
Rude barges its way into The Zap for its first Brighton outing. Radio 1's DJ Spoony will be dropping classic UK and US garage and hip hop in the main room with classic cuts in the back courtesy of Richie D. Mis-Teeq will be putting in a live set at the launch, while MOBO 2002 winner Steve "Smooth" Sutherland should be worth catching a week later on December 13. It runs from 10pm to 3am and admission is £8/£6. Tel: 01273 202407.

CREAM, Concorde 2, Brighton, December 7
The superclubs haven't been having the best of times lately but Cream continues to bring some big guns to Concorde 2. This early Christmas party will showcase the talents of Smokin' Jo who, after more than ten years playing out, is used to punching above her weight behind the decks (as anyone named after boxing legend Smoking Joe Frazier should be). Expect a one-two combination of soulful, funky house, played hard. It runs from 10.30pm until late and admission is £10 (plus booking fee in advance). Tel: 01273 772770.

EVERY DAY PEOPLE, The Escape, Brighton, every Saturday, 10pm to 3am
Every Day People (EDP) plays host to a distinctly un-everyday person tomorrow in the form of Jacques Lu Cont, the blue-eyed, scarlet-coiffured musical mind behind modern pop music phenomenon Les Rythmes Digitales. His singles, Jacques Your Body, Music Makes You Lose Control, and (Hey You) What's That Sound, really hit the mark in the late Nineties and spread the inimitable Les Rythmes Digitales sound across the globe. EDP's Saturday nights at The Escape have been proving popular and tomorrow should be no different as Lu Cont teams up with residents Scott Gair, Ash Huntingdon and Friendly Pressure. Let's just hope he doesn't have a bad hair day. Admission is £7/8. Tel: 01273 606906 SUNDAZED, The Honeyclub, Brighton, every Sunday, 10pm to 2am9 This weekend is going to be a big one for Brighton's clubbers but, if you fancy going out (quite literally) with a bang, Sundazed could be the just the thing for you. The main room plays host to some of the hardest house and bounciest techno, which should be just the thing to be put people in the mood for another working week. The second room has disco house shenanigans with those who prefer to wind their weekend down with something a bit less tough. Selected bottles are £1.50 but try not to get a hangover - there's nothing worse than the dead-headed Monday morning blues. Admission fee: £3/£4 (£2 before 11pm). Tel: 07000 44663.
