Jacqueline Madders (Letters, December 2) seems to assert investment either has to be in education or the arts and one has to be at the expense of the other.
Not so. I can assure her, thanks to the record level of investment in education in Brighton and Hove, there are no infant classes over 30 and no failing schools.
Given the diversity of cultural opportunities in the city, we would be failing our schoolchildren if we did not use them to enrich their learning experience.
That is why the Capital of Culture bid was so valuable in forging the links to take this work forward.
As for "slapping on the greasepaint and turning on the glitz", I hope this will be going on in earnest in every school over the next few weeks.
