Depleted Crawley warmed up for Saturday's FA Cup clash against Dagenham and Redbridge with a dour 1-1 draw against Chippenham.

Mo Harkin, Neil Le Bihan and Ellis Hooper were sidelined by injury while Nic McDonnell, struggling with a calf problem, only made the bench although all four are expected to be fit for Saturday.

Reds boss Billy Smith said: "I went with three upfront tonight because of the players we had available and we just didn't get the width.

"I thought it was a fair result and we battled back well from a goal down although we had some good chances to win the game."

Danny Hockton, Warren Bagnall and Kevin Hemsley came into the starting line-up against a Bluebirds side who had lost just twice in the league this season but Crawley's minds appeared to be on their impending Cup showdown.

There was little inspiration in a dire first half, with the visitors enjoying several bright openings early on.

After just four minutes, Adrian Mings raced through but his goalbound effort was kept out by defender Ben Judge before Marc Pullan cleared the danger.

Steve Brown sent an effort over the bar, while at the other end Hockton was denied by keeper James Bittner and Dave Stevens pulled a shot just wide.

Chippenham took a 23rd minute lead when Martin Paul seized on a loose ball to fire past Andy Little.

Hockton, Bagnall and then Hemsley all went close before Hemsley rifled in the leveller off defender Tom Gould four minutes into first half stoppage time.

Reds suffered a scare after the break when Pullan had to head off his own goalline from Griffin's 55th minute header.

Ian Payne and McDonnell came on after the hour for the home side as they looked for the breakthrough.

Gould had to clear a Hockton header off the Bluebirds' line with 20 minutes left and a Hockton free-kick rebounded to Judge on 75 minutes but his deflected effort hit a post.

The game drifted into obscurity as both sides looked content for a draw albeit a result which does little to help Reds' title prospects.
