A fancy-dress karaoke night has raised about £3,500 for a boy suffering from leukaemia.

The event was organised by Janine Barr at the Dolphin pub, Dominion Road, East Worthing, in aid of 11-year-old Craig Mills.

Doctors discovered on September 16 that Craig, a pupil at Chesswood Middle School, East Worthing, had chronic myeloid leukaemia after he broke a bone in his foot and went for treatment.

He is now undergoing chemotherapy as the search for a bone marrow donor intensifies.

Friends of the family rallied round to hold the fund-raising night, which was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Worthing, councillor Valerie Sutton.

Proceeds from the evening will go towards funding a holiday for Craig, his mother Melony, 33, father Colin, 41, brothers Stephen, nine, and Kieran, five, and six-year-old sister Charlotte.

Mrs Mills, of Angola Road, Worthing, said: "It was a very emotional night and a fantastic amount was raised.

"Our best wishes to everybody."

She said Craig was a normal, healthy, football-loving boy until he broke his foot, after which he started suffering from terrible pains in his legs and hip.

Blood tests revealed leukaemia and he is now only able to get around on crutches or in a wheelchair.

Mrs Mills said Craig was still attending school but he would have to take chemotherapy tablets until a donor was found.

Craig presented a bouquet of flowers to Dolphin landlady Cheryl Wilson, who said: "It was brilliant. I ended up crying my eyes out."
