Chichester skipper Steve Jones declared he was proud of his players despite an 11-0 humbling by Reading in the fourth round of the HA Cup.

A crowd of more than 100 saw the reigning national champions outclass South Premier side Chichester.

Reading, the best team in the country over the last few years, included a number of Great Britain internationals and the difference in class showed.

But Jones believes his players should hold their heads high after giving their best.

Goalkeeper Jones, who used to play for Reading, said: "The scoreline was the only disappointment. At half time we were only 4-0 down and we hoped we had acclimatised to the pace of the game.

"Our boys played superbly and player for player they matched Reading for a chunk of the game.

"With 20 minutes to go, they outdid us for fitness. By then, we had given everything we had. They ran us ragged in the last 20 minutes and scored six times in that period.

"I was very proud. It was a big side to be up against and we played very well. In spells of the game we definitely held our own.

"It was a good day and a learning experience for us. They played some hockey a lot of our guys wouldn't have seen before."

Ken Robinson scored five times and Andy Watts hit four for Reading. Richard Mantell got the other two from short corners.
