A fans' fund set up to save Brighton and Hove Albion from relegation raised £2,500 in its first week.
The Forty Note Fund was launched last week with the aim of raising money to pay the wages of two loan signings from the Premiership.
Organisers of the fund, who initially suggested fans contributed £40 each, have been amazed by supporters' generosity.
One fan paid £500 into the fund's bank account last Friday.
At the fans' forum at the Withdean Stadium last Thursday night, another supporter thrust £80 in cash into the hands of trustee Mike Middleton.
Fund spokeswoman Roz South said any contributions, large or small, were welcomed.
She said: "We are very pleased with the results of the first week."
Donations to the fund can be made at the Allied Irish Bank in Marlborough Place, Brighton, using the sort code 23-85-89 and the account number 05318022.
Postal donations can be sent to Doug Clarke, c/o Grate Fireplaces, 77/79 North Street, Portslade, BN41 1DH, or Mike Middleton, 10 Buxton Road, Brighton.
