Tristan Court won so much silverware at Brighton Mitre's annual dinner that he only took one token trophy back to his table.

He said he would collect the rest later, presumably in a Securicor van!

Court's 17 first places included Mitre's open hilly time trial which finished at the top of Steyning Bostal.

He also had many top four places including second in the Sussex Sporting Courses Competition.

Stuart Fahey rode consistently well to become the Mitre's road race champion. He won at East Grinstead, was second in the Surrey League road race and was third at Barcombe.

Other Mitre riders who showed good form in bunched races included Toby Leyton, who won three times at Hove Park, and Dan Clark.

They finished first and second overall in the Hove Park B series. Clark won a circuit race at Goodwood and Andy Green was second at Barcombe.

Mountain biker Tony Richardson won the Experts race at the Cheddar Challenge. Tim Holmes placed fourth overall in the Sussex Sporting Courses Competition and the Mitre won several team prizes in open events.

One of the club's youngest members, Jack Smith, won the under-12s mountain bike race at the Southern Area meeting in Stanmer Park.

Club chairman Ray Smith said: "We're hoping to do even better next year and new members are welcome to join us."

VC Etoile should have a good entry for their open cyclo-cross meeting in the grounds of Lancing Manor Leisure Centre on Sunday. The first of three races for juvenile riders starts at 10.45am and the senior Sussex League open event starts at 12.45pm. All races can be entered on the day.

Sussex League leader Jonathan Sharpe will be in the Czech Republic during the week but aims to be back in time to compete. He finished third at the weekend in round seven of the London League at Strood.
