A security guard denied indecently assaulting an 18-year-old woman when she went to the toilet at a fast-food restaurant.

Eleftherios Kopsidis, 24, from Burgess Hill, denies kissing and touching the 18-year-old in Burger King, North Street, Brighton, on January 8.

Jeremy Gold, prosecuting, told Lewes Crown Court DNA in saliva found on the victim's lips had almost certainly come from Kopsidis, according to tests.

Kopsidis told the court: "She was not walking properly. Everybody could see she was drunk. She was laughing at everybody."

He said the girl asked him where the toilets were and he led her to them.

He said: "When I reached the foyer door I opened it with my hand and said she had funny socks. She said, 'My socks are the best and my arse is the best' and she pulled her skirt up."

He said he brushed off the girl's advances and went to use a disabled toilet before returning to check on her.

He said he pleaded with her to leave the restaurant. A short while later he saw her leave with a couple.

Kopsidis said he only touched the girl on the arm to beckon her out of the toilets.

Detective Constable David Wright said he trawled through Burger King CCTV footage and at no time saw the defendant collect the key to open the disabled toilet.

Kopsidis told the court he had his own matching star key, which had been sent to him from his father's house in Greece.

PC Kristina Peacock interviewed the girl shortly after she left the restaurant at 2am.

She said: "She was incredibly upset and I could smell alcohol."

PC Peacock said the girl told her Kopsidis had said many women fancied him before he tried to kiss her, touch her breast and put his hand down her knickers.

Kopsidis, who is married, denies a single offence of indecent assault and said the saliva had landed on the girl when he coughed.

The trial is expected to end today.
