A city high-flyer left the world of power suits and bespoke tailoring to design baby clothes - with a little help from his niece.

When Michael Bull took voluntary redundancy from a stockbrokers' firm, he decided to follow up his love of drawing cartoons.

After creating a range of Christmas cards, Michael, from Kemp Town, Brighton, moved into designing T-shirt motifs.

He and his sister Jennifer Grant set up the firm Baby Capers after spotting a niche in the market for sporty babywear.

Michael, who has no children of his own, came up with a cartoon baby based on Jennifer's 19-month-old daughter Ella, featured on the T-shirts. His designs are now selling well across Brighton and Hove.

Michael, 38, said: "I gave up work last December and had always done a bit of cartooning as a hobby.

"I wanted to see if I could develop some ideas and make some money out of it.

"Jennifer suggested designing something for a T-shirt. I took some photos of Ella and developed a cartoon character. I drew the baby playing eight different sports but we have used four to start with.

"Hopefully we are going to add a DJ design which should go down well."

Designs on sale at the moment include a footballer, tennis player and racing driver. They are on sale at Flip 'N' Funky in Queens Road, Brighton, as well as sports centre crches.

Jennifer, 37, from Patcham, said: "I have a marketing background and saw there was a market for baby T-shirts.

"They are selling really well and Mike is hoping to branch out into adult designs with a fatherhood and motherhood theme.

"We are getting positive feedback from Flip'N'Funky. They are just on sale in Brighton at the moment but we are hoping to expand."
