What a relief Brighton and Hove is not in the running for Capital of Culture. We are a capital of culture but not the type I like very much.

It is a pity the money spent in preparation for the bid was not spent on cleaning up the filthy streets and getting rid of the drug addicts, winos and beggars that abound.

In my opinion it was an exercise by the ruling Labour council for its own personal gratification. As for Brighton and Hove being a city, I very much doubt that has been of much use to the average person living here - housing prices are sky high, way out of the range of people working for the wages paid in the area.

What other venture will Brighton and Hove City Council think up? It is a pity we cannot get back to the days when councillors did the job for the people they represent rather than the money they can get.
