Two West Sussex police officers who saved a drunken man from falling off a bridge have won official recognition.

PCs Caroline Bond and Ceri Spratt were called to a footbridge across the River Arun on May 17, 2002, following reports that a man was about to jump into the water.

The constables held on to the man as he drifted in and out of consciousness until more officers arrived to help pull him to safety.

Both PC Bond and PC Spratt will receive divisional congratulations for courage at a ceremony in Centenary House, Durrington, Worthing, on November 4.

The ceremony will commend a number of officers and members of the public for life-saving or crime-preventing work.
