Albion ace Bobby Zamora is waiting to hear whether his goalscoring return from injury has come soon enough to earn him an international recall.

David Platt names his England under 21 squad on Sunday night for a double header of European Championship qualifiers.

Platt's young charges tackle Slovakia in Trnava on October 11 and Macedonia at Reading four days later.

Zamora missed last month's 1-1 friendly draw against Yugoslavia at Bolton with knee ligament damage.

He was on target on his comeback for the Seagulls in last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by fellow strugglers Grimsby.

Boss Martin Hinshelwood believes his star marksman has a good chance of adding to the three substitute appearances he has already made for Platt's youngsters, two of them in the European Championships in Switzerland in May.

"They know the situation," Hinshelwood said. "He has been out for six weeks, but I think it would benefit him going.

"They were aware of him the last time and made an enquiry, but he wasn't fit then.

"Now he is back playing and I think David Platt likes him as a player and a person, so there is every chance he will be in the squad."

Zamora said: "Hopefully I will be in it. I haven't given them much to look at so far this season, so I don't know if I will be.

"I'll just keep my fingers crossed. I loved being involved in the European Championhsips in the summer."

Zamora came through his return from a nine-match absence against Grimsby with no reaction to the knee problem sustained against Norwich at Withdean on August 17.

He got better as the game wore on after a tentative start and equalised in the second half, his second goal in three full starts.

"He lasted longer than we thought he would, but he's a fit lad," Hinshelwood said. "He came off near the end because he just had cramp in both calves.

"Any player will tell you after you have been out for a period of time and the injury is in an area that could cause problems in later life that you are going to be wary of it."
