Chris Eubank's former trainer Ronnie Davies could have three champion boxers by the end of this month.

WBU and Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Tony Oakey has moved to the city to prepare for his top of the bill defence against unbeaten Estonian Andre Kiarsten at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, next Saturday.

On the same bill, Brighton lightweight Chill John, 25, a former world champion kick-boxer, gets a shot at the Southern Area title against Graham Earl.

Davies could complete a hat-trick of champions under his stewardship by the end of the month when Hove light-heavyweight Neil Linford boxes for a British Masters title against Radcliffe Green.

John has been given a shot at the Southern Area title after controversially losing 59-58 to Jason Hall at the Elephant and Castle a fortnight ago in a bout many onlookers thought he had won.

Davies said: "Jason Hall was supposed to fight for the Southern Area title after he beat Chill but he is so bust up after that fight that the British Boxing Board of Control have said Chill must fight him.

"To be honest I didn't want Chill to be taking on opponents of this calibre so early as I would like to nurture him along a bit further.

"But what can I do if he produces performances like the one against Hall? He has proved he can hold his own with the best fighters so it would be wrong for me to deny him this opportunity.

"His opponent Graham Earl has just fought and won an eliminator for the British title so he is going to be a tough opponent."

Davies added: "The funny thing is Chill will be fighting for the belt which I won in 1967. No-one had ever come from Brighton before to win it and now he will be following in my footsteps."

Oakey, who hails from Havant, has moved into Davies's home to escape the attention he attracts in Portsmouth and maintain a focused preparation for his defence.

Oakey said: "I am staying with Ronnie and have kicked him out of his bed and he is sleeping on the sofa.

"I have got away from all the good things back home, like my girlfriend, and I am eating, drinking and sleeping boxing. It is nice being around Ronnie as his coolness and experience is rubbing off on me."
