Relations between police and the gay community in Brighton and Hove have improved immensely over the past decade.
But there's still some friction and it was obvious at this year's Pride celebrations when police videoed some participants.
They complained intrusive shots were taken, even though the event was peaceful and no crimes were committed.
Police say they were filming to improve safety, which is reasonable after what happened at the Fatboy Slim concert in July.
The trouble is they did not appear to explain this properly at the time to people who did not want to be filmed.
Pride is a big and firmly-established event in the Brighton calendar, where thousands of people enjoy themselves. Its appeal as a spectacle goes well beyond the gay community.
It is usually trouble free but if there are problems, they should be discussed openly with the organisers.
Police need to make sure they do not sour a reasonably good relationship with Pride, which has taken time and effort by both sides to achieve.
