To answer Selma Montford's questions on the building piercing sculptures (Letters, October 4), listed building consent was discussed with planning officers, who concluded that, as the exhibits were temporary for two months and no alterations were made to the fabric of the buildings, no consent was needed. No taxpayers' money has been used.
As we have repeatedly said, the project was paid for by business sponsorship and the Lottery. It would be illegal to divert these funds to the uses she suggests.
