Business leaders in Sussex are calling for the Treasury to change direction on its tax and spend fiscal policy.
But members of the Sussex branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) said they supported the Bank of Englands monetary policy.
Richard Hopkins, treasurer of the IoD Sussex, said:
"Our members are concerned at the rising burden of taxation. Between 1997 and 2006 we estimate the tax burden will rise by almost five per cent of gross domestic product or £50 billion."
