Brighton and Hove City Council is considering tenders for the redevelopment of the Black Rock site.

Proposals include the building of a skating rink and concert venue combined.

A hotel is currently under construction in the Marina to add to possibly the worst example of pastiche architecture and cheaply built commercial development in the South of England.

The last straw would be yet another steel box added to the skyline and cars with nowhere to park.

The Black Rock site provides a real opportunity to mask some of the excess of the appalling industrial development at the Marina.

A prestige building of real architectural merit would significantly enhance this area and mark the end of Madeira Drive and Brighton's seafront.

Consider the impact of the Bilbao Guggenheim art gallery.

A building and gallery with an international reputation has put this previously insignificant Spanish town on the map.

Given Brighton and Hove's interest in becoming a Capital of Culture, why not a Guggenheim art gallery here?

We will only get one chance to build on the Black Rock site in the next 100 years.

Let's make it something of vision and beauty to be proud of and not just another cheaply built big tin shed.
