A boy of ten was dangled over a 60ft cliff as a prank by two youths he did not know.

The youngster was playing with friends after school on the West Hill above Hastings Old Town when the two teenagers arrived.

One of them swept the boy's legs from underneath him before taking the terrified boy to the cliff edge and dangling him over head-first.

Police today appealed for information about the incident, which they said could have led to the schoolboy being killed.

The youth who dangled the boy over the cliff was aged about 15 and about 5ft 8in tall.

He had a dark complexion and was wearing green cord trousers.

He had a beige top with sunglasses tucked into its neck.

The other youth was about 5ft 2in, of slim build, wearing a blue tracksuit with colouring on the sleeves.

Police at Hastings today asked anyone with information to call PC Mark Smith at Hastings on 0845 6070 999, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
