There are signs that Newhaven, after many years in the doldrums, is heading for a revival.

The popular high-speed catamaran has been backed by a conventional ferry service after fears the port would lose its link to France.

There is a new look to the west quay with housing and a walkway. Denton Island is thriving with industry and leisure attractions are flourishing.

Now, developers have their eye on the town centre between the one-way system, an area badly in need of renovation.

They have produced a scheme for the eastern end of the area that includes a skyscraper more than 200ft high.

If approved by planners, this scheme will provide homes, shops and jobs in the town centre and also improve its link with the port and main railway station.

It is open to debate as to whether a skyscraper would be too big for Newhaven or whether a low-rise development would serve the town better.

But the good news is that someone wants to invest £10 million whereas ten years ago, no one would have touched the town centre.
