Brighton eased into the semi-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup with a 5-1 win at home over Mid Sussex.

Paul Watson (2), Craig Carolan (2) and Graham Pruce were all on target in the victory.

Phil Middleton pulled a goal back for the visitors, who were missing skipper Andy Green, to make it 3-1 at half-time but Brighton ran out winners.

Carlo Missirian's side will play the winners of East Grinstead's re-arranged clash with Crawley in the semis and Brighton are anxious to win the cup after losing in the final last season.

Missirian said: "We are glad to be in the semis. We had a good pre-season fitness-wise and the team are looking sharp.

"The only disappointment was the finishing. Thankfully Paul Watson's goal 15 minutes into the second half made it 4-1 and killed the game off."

Meanwhile, Chichester have vowed to retain the cup after securing their passage to the semis with a 3-0 win at home against Worthing.

The holders's impressive win has ensured a dramatic climax to the competition with the return of Lewes and East Grinstead.

Lewes and Grinstead have not featured in the competition in recent years, preferring to concentrate on their National League campaigns.

Pendle said: "The event has a real bite to it this season and it is an important part of our season to retain the cup."

Peter Turner opened the scoring for Chichester against Worthing with a penalty corner after ten minutes and Adam Beere laid on the second for Henry Stremes before Bryan Lock completed the scoring.
