A bride-to-be was late for her wedding ceremony after her driver became embroiled in a road rage punch-up.

Danielle Tasker and her bridesmaids had to abandon one taxi and hail another after the fight threatened to spoil her big day.

She had called a taxi to take her from the Jarvis International Hotel to the Thistle Hotel in Kings Road, Brighton, on Saturday.

But as they went past Churchill Square, the taxi was involved in a collision with another car. The two drivers got out and started fighting.

Erin Sheerin, one of Danielle's two bridesmaids, said: "Lots of people crowded round the fight.

"But as soon as we saw what was happening we got out, ran across the road and jumped in another taxi.

"We didn't want to see what was going on - this was just five minutes before she was meant to be getting married."

Danielle, 31, arrived a few minutes behind schedule for her wedding to 30-year-old Liam Sheerin, of Waterloo Street, Hove.

Her mother Joy Tasker said: "This was pretty upsetting for her because she's a very punctual person. The things she said when she did arrive weren't very bride-like.

"She couldn't have tried to break up the fight because she had a huge bouquet in her hands.

"She arrived hot, sweaty and not very good-tempered. But the day went brilliantly after that."

Erin added: "We had to laugh about it later. If that was the worst thing that was going to happen, we knew we'd survive."

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers attended but neither of the men involved wanted to pursue complaints. Neither was badly hurt.
