David Leonard (Letters, September 21) praises the skill of The Argus's racing tipster and speculates as to his identity. You were lucky, Mr Leonard - you caught him on a good day.

The day your letter was published, he was back to his usual form, managing just two winners (at 1/2F and 5/4F) from the 14 races at the principal Channel 4 meetings at Ayr and Newbury. You still wonder why he remains anonymous?

Could William Fraser do any better? Well, actually, yes. I chose the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup - Funfair Wane at 16/1, based on the hot tip that I would be hurtling full pelt on a white-knuckle ride at Chessington at the time and probably waning accordingly. It paid for a great day out with my beautiful nine-year-old daughter.
