Lewes 0, Eastleigh 0: Jimmy Quinn has warned Lewes he will quit if performances do not improve.

Quinn was incensed by his side's lacklustre display in this dire second round FA Cup qualifier.

The Sussex side reached the first round proper against Stoke City last season after a scintillating run which earned the club several thousands of pounds and acclaim.

But they will need a much-improved performance in Wednesday's replay if they are to repeat that run.

Quinn said: "If I cannot get the players to perform and get in players who will, then I will resign.

"It was a disappointing game between two poor teams. We were below our best and that has happened a few times this season.

"I am disappointed because we have worked hard this season. We do not expect to win any match without competing and battling and the team did not bother to do that."

Lewes failed to play the brand of incisive football which has served them so well.

Too often they pumped high, speculative balls up to teenager Lee Newman who was easily out jumped.

By the 56th minute, Newman looked a forlorn figure and was replaced having received no service.

The biggest villain at the Dripping Pan was referee Shaun Pryor who controversially refused Lewes a penalty in the seventh minute after Stuart Roberts appeared to handle the ball in the box.

The official further infuriated Lewes by failing to take any action when Stuart Hack had to be substituted in the first half after receiving a blow to the face which required ten stitches.

Pryor also sent off Lewes substitute Danny Davis in the 66th minute. Davis had only been on the field for ten minutes but received his marching orders for foul and abusive language towards his assistant.

The referee also cautioned seven other players.

Lewes carved out their best opportunities following Davis's dismissal and skipper Marc Cable had a header cleared off the line.

Tony Reid headed against the post in injury-time from a Gareth Green cross.

Aside from Luke Gedling, Lewes' most creative threat, and Cable, who was exceptional, Lewes bore little resemblance to the team that did so well in the Cup last season.

Quinn is disappointed by the break-up of his Ryman division two title-winning side following the departure of Sam Francis and Paul Thomsett to Withdean 2000 and Ringmer respectively.

He said: "My team has changed a lot and that is the most disappointing thing because we have lost some very good players despite being successful.

"We have become victims of the money in Sussex football.

" Francis, Thomsett, Paul Dicker and Reece Head have all moved on but not to better sides playing a better standard of football."

He is rebuilding his side and signed midfielder Paul Kennett from Worthing at the weekend.

But Kennett is unavailable for the replay and top scorer Germaine Amanuel is likely to be missing again with a hamstring injury.

Justin Harris and Paul Stokes remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

Harris is back in training after breaking his leg and expects to be pushing for a recall at Christmas.

Stokes has another operation on his ankle this week and expects to be back for the festive period.

Cable, who recently turned 28, said: "We know we had better start performing more consistently.

"I think it is going to happen soon. We have had lots of changes and we are trying to play more football. I think we will do all right in the replay.

"The players here definitely want to taste another FA Cup run.

"It was the highlight of most peoples' careers and it is financially important for the club."

Matt Le Tissier, who played for Eastleigh in a pre-season friendly, is unlikely to turnout on Wednesday but Lewes will be sure to face the same physical approach from the Hampshire side who are unbeaten in Jewson Wessex League Division One.
