Burgess Hill's annual bonfire display went off with a bang during the weekend despite a slight technical hitch.
More than 400 people turned out to see bonfire societies from across Sussex walk around the town and watch the display a Royal George Fairfield Recreation Ground on Saturday night.
The fun was almost cut short however, when the procession was diverted at the last minute following reports of a gas leak in Silverdale Road.
Police escorted the entourage around the area, through Keymer Road and Ferndale Road.
The event was organised by the Burgess Hill Bonfire Society. Members dressed up as Aztecs for the march.
Organiser Claire Hanford said: "It was a great day with 23 bonfire societies from across the county turning up - which is a record for us.
"We also held street collections which raised £2,188 for local charities."
The cash will be donated to a variety of groups including Seahorsing Swimming Group, Burgess Hill Marching Youth and Hope in the Valley Riding for the Disabled.
