Neil Turk will make his Sussex debut in the final match of the season against Essex on Sunday.

The 19-year-old left-hander gets his chance at Chelmsford as the county look to end a sorry season in the National League on a high.

East Grinstead-based Turk, who is studying sports science at Exeter University, has produced some impressive performances in the 2nd XI this season, scoring his maiden hundred against Hampshire last month.

He said: "I thought I had a slight chance of playing as it is the last game of the season, but it still came as a bit of a surprise when Peter Moores told me yesterday.

"I was 12th man in the Championship game against Leicestershire last month which gave me a bit of exposure to the first team. There isn't a massive amount of pressure but I still want to enjoy it and do well."

Michael Yardy returns to the side for the first time since suffering knee ligament damage against Somerset on July 19.

Coach Peter Moores said: "It will be nice for Yards to finish off the season on a positive note. He's had a disappointing year because of the injury so this is a good opportunity for him."

Essex have already clinched promotion while only a victory would ensure Sussex avoid the wooden spoon. They are two points ahead of Middlesex who finish their campaign against Derbyshire at Derby.
