Police have pledged to crack down on boy racers who are making life a misery for residents in Worthing.

They promised action after complaints about teenagers driving cars at speed through the town centre late at night.

The motorists meet at Teville Gate, a derelict shopping centre north of Worthing, and drive to Splash Point on the seafront.

People have also reported seeing drug dealing taking place at Splash Point, just yards from a street camera.

One neighbour said: "The matter is getting out of hand and it is time the police acted."

Acting Inspector Mick Jones, of Worthing Police, said: "The people of Worthing should not have to put up with such anti-social behaviour.

"We are actively seeking to address this situation and any offences will be dealt with appropriately.

"I'm aware a number of vehicles meet up at Teville Gate and drive, sometimes in convoy, to Splash Point, as well as the bowling alley.

"The manner of their driving leaves a lot to be desired."

He said police may set up a speed trap in the area.
