Three men have been arrested in connection with a series of sex attacks at the Butlins holiday camp in Bognor.

The suspects were arrested yesterday in connection with Operation Magellan. They helped police with their inquiries and were released on bail.

Last night, a man hiding in bushes at the camp was disturbed by police and Butlins security patrols, which have been stepped up after four women were attacked in just 11 days in or near the camp.

Police are now studying CCTV footage to try to identify the man.

Detective Inspector Tony O'Donnell said: "A man was disturbed in bushes last night as a result of increased security patrols from the police and Butlins.

"The man then left on a pedal cycle. This could be our man but he could also be unconnected with our investigation."

Mr O'Donnell added: "We have a number of good lines of inquiry and we are fairly hopeful that one of these will give us the result we want."

The attacks have led many to fear a serial sex attacker is stalking women at the complex during its peak season.

One woman has been raped and two others indecently assaulted inside the camp. A fourth victim was attacked just outside the perimeter fence.

Police said the latest attack - which happened early yesterday - took place in the camp grounds, when a man grabbed a woman, kissed her and then pushed her on to a bench. She managed to struggle free.

All 4,700 holidaymakers have been warned about the attacks and security has been stepped up.

Butlins says it has doubled the number of security guards at the centre.
