It is my pleasure to report I have just signed a player who is new to me.

He's a two guard who can shoot high percentages from the perimeter. His name? Mike Brown.

Yes, I know Mike has been here for a few years. In fact this will be his fourth season at Brighton, but last year was my first working with him and I don't think I saw the real Mike.

That's why I was so pleased this week when he decided he had not been offered anything in Europe which made it worth him upping sticks and leaving England.

Don't get me wrong, I thought he played extremely well last year in a lot of intangible areas. I'm talking about hussle, defence, rebounding and other unselfish qualities that do not show up on the stats sheets.

He was not the old Mike when it came to perimeter shooting however and we expect him to feel a lot more comfortable this time and to have a better year shooting the basketball.

I believe some of you were alerted to Sterling Davis's presence in Brighton when he was spotted shopping in Churchill Square. Yes, I had been tipped off he would be visiting these parts.

Will he stay here for the winter? Well, as I write, we have made him an offer, which I think is a good one, and he is very interested. He has teams talking to him but no-one has put a contract in front of him.

I have spoken to other American players, including Roy Hairston, who did such a good job for me the year we won the Championships at Manchester. He would be a great signing for us. Don't rule Albert White out of the equation just yet either.

Rodger Farrington has, you will know, gone to Mons in Belgium but rest assured we will fill up our slots for work permit and non-permit overseas players. Mike has got his British passport and I hope to take a couple more English guys. I will talk to Errol Seaman and Mark Jackson while keeping an open mind as to who else is out there.

You might have spotted some fans on a website claiming I was keen on signing both TJ Walker and Robert Youngblood. Absolutely not true.

You will also have seen in the press we will be splitting our games 50-50 between the Brighton Centre and the Triangle. Spot on, it will be an 11-11 split, though if we win at Solent in the cup, I can reveal our home tie with Newcastle or Sheffield will be at Burgess Hill on Friday, November 8, making it 11-12.

Finally a word about our summer camp which took place this week. It has been awesome. The kids have worked hard, the coaches have been great and the whole thing has been another big boost for basketball in Sussex. Long may it continue.
