How arrogant was Peter Jones, leader of East Sussex County Council, to suggest the consultation response of individuals on the South Downs National Park was contrived (The Argus, July 28)?

This was the most approachable consultation to individuals of all persuasions; open and above board.

Because his council did not like the 95 per cent response in favour, he is now trying to disregard those individual views.

We might ask the question of his Conservative-dominated council: "Do the continuing negative views towards a park carry the full majority weight of his constituents?"

We will never know because his council, unlike Brighton and Hove City Council, is frightened to put the question to a referendum.
