VE ARE not amused! That is the message being sent to comedian Rik Mayall for his appearance in an anti-Euro advert, dressed as Hitler.

Hove MP Ivor Caplin is calling for the advert to be banned from local cinemas.

The Labour politician says the controversial promo, due to hit the screens next week, is deeply offensive to Brighton and Hove's Jewish community.

The 90-second advert features a clip of the former Young Ones star dressed as the Nazi leader addressing a crowd with the slogan: "Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Euro!"

Mr Caplin claims associating the Euro with Hitler is an insult to the memory of the Holocaust victims.

He said: "This advert trivialises a great tragedy in European history in order to score cheap political points."

"It will cause great offence to people from all communities in Brighton and Hove, especially the Jewish community. I reject entirely that this spoof is in any way funny."

"I hope our cinemas will show real common sense and refuse to accept this advert for screening."

He was backed by MEP for the South East, Peter Skinner.
