We are writing with reference to the document produced by Brighton and Hove City Council's planning department, which was given to councillors with a recommendation that they be minded to grant the application for a football stadium at Falmer.

As the tenant farmers of the land in question, we wish to point out inaccuracies within the document. Under the heading "Land use", it reads: "The majority of the site is in agricultural use and the proposal would remove some of the highest quality land, although the farm holding is not considered to be viable" and "The farm shop in Falmer village would be unaffected."

We have farmed this land for more than 20 years. We have made a living from it for ourselves and our children. We also employ two part-time staff. If it were not viable, we would have gone out of business or have had to supplement our income by working away from the farm.

The farm shop is an integral part of this holding. To say this would be unaffected is not true. Apart from the loss of the supporting land, growing cereals this year but used to produce vegetables for the shop in the past, the traffic implications are enormous. We envisage that customers would not visit the farm on match days to avoid becoming caught up in supporter traffic. Any attempts to control traffic entering the village at Park Street from the Falmer Road (we are on this corner) would result in congestion and tailbacks on to what is already a dangerous junction.

Our concern is that if this information is incorrect, how much else in the report is?

After attending the planning meeting on June 12, we were disappointed a decision had to be made when there are still so many unanswered questions and unresolved problems. We look forward to a public inquiry.
