James Dear and Jon Sharples notched up two more wins for the In Gear club on one of the busiest weeks of the season so far.

Dear was first in the Bognor Regis CC ten-mile time trial at Fontwell in a fast time of 20min.46sec.

His clubmate Steve Elms was third in 21min.12sec. Simon Prior Eastbourne Rovers) was fifth in 21min.24sec and Mike Murray Brighton Excelsior) seventh in 21min.51sec.

Sharples won the 31-mile second round of the Lewes Wanderers road race series at Laughton.

He sprinted home ahead of Hastings rider Lee Oliver (VC Bayeaux) and Andrew Kitching Durham University).

John Limpus scored a convincing win in the seven-lap race at the sixth track league meeting at Preston Park. The GS Stella rider launched a surprise attack halfway through the final lap and coasted home ahead of Mark Winton (Lewes Wanderers) and GS Stella's Lee Povey.

Brighton Excelsior had a good response to their Golden Jubilee 'come and try it' time trial for under-16s.

It was won by Matthew Howard from the aptly-named VC Jubilee Club, of Shoreham.

He covered the three-and-a-half miles of the Steyning-based course in 11min.5sec. Adam Gent (Sussex Nomads) was just three seconds slower in second place while Sophie Coleman (Preston Park)

kept the girls in the picture by finishing third in 11min.18sec.

Fourth was Jack Howlett (VC Jubilee) in 11min.20sec, closely followed by Ryan Attwood (Brighton Excelsior) in 11min.28sec and Kevin Gill (unattached) with 11min.34sec. The promoters are planning to make it an annual event.

The Worthing Excelsior 70-mile road race Kirdford produced several breakaway attempts by Sussex riders, notably Mark Jones (GS Stella) and Mike Coyle (VC Etoile).

But they were exhausted by their earlier efforts and could not respond when the leading bunch of 37 riders contested the sprint finish.

Addiscombe rider Phil Watkins was first over the line. First Sussex rider, just six seconds behind, was Dave Roberts (East Grinstead)

in 13th place.

Horsham riders had a good entry for their mountain bike meeting. Local riders dominated the three events and Sylvain Garde won the main six-lap race, Barry Dunstan the four-lap and Fiona Husband the two-lap.
