The continuing negative responses by the Brighton and Hove city councillors responsible for transport solutions to any suggestions by any group is frustrating.

Not only has the French city of Lyon built underground car parks, as stated in The Argus (June 14), but also the city of Rome has built an underground coach park near St Peter's Square.

No one can say Brighton and Hove's Regency heritage is more important than Rome's ancient heritage and if this great Italian city can find ways round building underground, so can we.

The lack of progress of Brighton and Hove's park-and-ride scheme and a substantial rapid transport system will cost Brighton and Hove City Council dear at the next May elections. This negative stance of "ban the car" is not followed by positive planning responses on a

public transport initiative.

The decision to build a stadium near Falmer, which I support, is not possible without the council putting forward a solution to our transport problems. It is not the responsibility of the Albion to solve Brighton and Hove's transport problems. Councillors should come forward with the solutions.
