Olympian Sean Baldock, from Hastings, is favourite to take Tim Bayley's title in the men's 400m at the Sussex Championships in Crawley.

Andrew Bennett, better known as a 400m hurdler, who is also capable of running inside 50.0sec, looks set to challenge them this weekend.

Also in the running is last year's runner-up, Alistair Gordon, in what should be a final to savour.

All except Bennett are entered for the 200m. They will be joined by Gavin Stephens, from Worthing, the British Students Indoor 200m champion and Ian Barratt (Crawley).

Gordon is the reigning champion while Baldock is more vulnerable over the shorter distance.

The men's under-20 800m and 1,500m should produce some sparks.

Andrew Dean (Bognor) has already shown excellent form over both distances this year He will clash with Brighton and Hove's Joe Stephenson, who has produced some fine runs over 1,500m, and club mate Jack Vail, impressive at 3,000m.

This could be the last year the remarkable Debbie Woolgar (Worthing) will win a Sussex senior title. She will competing in her 23rd County Championship.

The 37-year-old has won Sussex titles every year, claiming 86 individual gold medals.

She should retain her shot and discus titles.

After several years in which hamstring problems have confined her efforts to the throwing events, Woolgar has also entered the long jump and the 400m hurdles.
