Jason Lewry and Will House helped put Sussex in a commanding position after two days of their friendly against Bradford/Leeds UCCE at Hastings.

Lewry and House took 4-28 and 4-10 respectively as Sussex gained a first innings lead of 236 after dismissing the students for 164.

Dutchman Bas Zuiderent then fired an attractive 84 opening the innings to help his side reach 163-5 by stumps and an overall lead of 399.

Sussex lost their first four wickets for 72 before Zuiderent, who was caught behind just before the close, aded 78 with Carl Hopkinson who is 36 not out.

Dominic Clapp followed his first innings eight with a duck and House also failed to score after he was dismissed for the second time in the match by Richard Noach.

The visitors, resuming on 26-1, earlier collapsed after a second wicket stand of 91 between Andrew Payn (42) and Danny Lucas (49).

Lewry triggered the slide in overcast conditions and all four of his victims, which included Lucas, were trapped leg before.

The students slumped from 91-1 at one stage to 115-6 and Lewry sent down 19 overs, eight of them maidens, in a confidence-boosting display.

Apart from Payn and Lucas, only Noach and Tim Barlow managed double figures and skipper House polished off the innings as the visitors were hustled out by mid-afternoon.

Jamie Carpenter and debutant Krishnah Singh, who made 21 and 0 respectively in the first innings, would have been disappointed at missing out again when Sussex went in a second time.
