A port town has welcomed a new mayor who has pledged to fight plans for a waste incinerator.
Dennis Forsdike has taken over from David Fitton as Mayor of Newhaven.
Coun Forsdike said he would support the town council in its fight against waste plan proposals, which could mean an incinerator for the town.
He said: "The threat of an incinerator casts a black shadow over the future prosperity of the town.
"There is now the added threat that we will have to deal with Brighton and Hove's sewerage as well as their rubbish.
"Alongside my fellow councillors, residents and organisations who are all passionate about the town, we will be fighting against this all the way"
Councillor Forsdike is no stranger to council life, having represented the Denton and Riverside ward for four years.
He moved to the town in 1995 with his wife Helen after a time on Arun District Council.
