Judging by the only-to-be-expected readers' letters (May 3), would it not have been more appropriate if the critic for Russell Watson at the Brighton Centre had been from the "pop" side of music?
Would a critic of literary work write differently about Shakespeare and Schiller compared to, say, Barbara Cartland and Ethel M Dell?
Would a critic of visual art give varied opinions on Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt compared to Andy Warhol?
How about Bach compared to Elton John or Caruso to Mick Jagger?
Mike Howard would surely have known, and probably anticipated, such a protesting outcry from a media-fed audience.
It surely is not possible to judge the merits of a performance so amplified and possibly acoustically manipulated.
Let Mr Watson stand on that Brighton stage or any sizeable theatre and deliver without any amplified assistance and then judge what voice he has.
