Police besieged a tower block after a woman was taken hostage in a fourth floor flat.
The siege began at about 6.30pm last night after the young woman, believed to be pregnant, was taken prisoner by a man in his late-teens at Swallow Court, Swanborough Place, Brighton.
Police surrounded the building in a stand-off which lasted about three hours. Eventually officers wearing stab-proof vests forced their way into the flat to rescue the woman.
She was taken to hospital with injuries which were not thought to be serious.
Two men in their late-teens were arrested.
A police spokesman said the cause of the stand off was "domestic".
