Less a theatrical production and more an exploration of Zen Buddhism, Yoshi Oida tackles the meaning of life.
Accompanied by virtuoso percussionist Wolf-Dieter Trustedt, he asked: "A man climbs a tall pole. When he has reached the top, how can he go higher?"
A few brave souls endeavoured to solve the seemingly insoluble. One woman said earnestly: "He must transcend the pole. Material things will never help you reach enlightenment."
Even Oida laughed.
The show is a journey into the world of Zen masters. But if you are unfamiliar with such philosophies, you may have, like me, felt a little lost.
But at least if you are going to be lost in anyone's world, Oida's is probably the most fascinating.
The performer, director and teacher has a huge spiritual presence and his performance is visually stunning.
Using bamboo sticks, a bowl of water and his own body, he manages to transfix the audience.
It is by no means a easy performance to watch but Interrogations is an experience few will regret.
