Bobby Zamora is being lined up by England for the European Under-21s Championship.

The Albion striker has been pulled out of the under-20s squad which left today for the Toulon tournament in France.

Under-21s coach David Platt has been impressed by Zamora's goal-scoring exploits with Albion and could name him in the squad on Thursday for the summer Championships in Switzerland.

Platt is understood to favour five strikers including Zamora, Alan Smith, Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Malcolm Christie.

An FA spokesman confirmed one reason Zamora had been pulled out of the under-20s squad was because of "potential contention for a place in David Platt's squad".

Martin Hinshelwood, Albion director of youth, thinks Zamora will make the final cut.

He said: "There is no question he can deal with that level. He won't be fazed.

"Bobby showed that when he got 20 minutes on his under-21 debut against Portugal that he can cope. His time in the spotlight did him no harm at all.

"He didn't seem to be a Second Division player. He didn't look out of place alongside young strikers who were Premier players.

"He has shown over the last two seasons that he is the best young striker for a while."

Zamora had scored netted 63 goals in two seasons with Albion.
