While not considering myself to be a royalist, I have had to revise certain thoughts I may have had on the subject.

I and many other shop workers had to go to work as usual on Tuesday.

I was quite surprised to find a revised notice on the shop doors stating that, instead of observing the three-minute silence, we would be closing from 10.30am to 12.30pm in respect of the Queen Mother.

Most of the other large stores in the area did likewise.

However, after we shut our doors, we all had to set to work on the deliveries and go about our general duties as usual.

It turned out all the other shop workers had to do likewise. Where was the "respect" for the Queen Mother in that?

I feel quite angry and sad that we were unable to participate in what should have been a national day of mourning.

As usual, greed and money conquers all.
