Workmen have dismantled an encampment on Whitehawk Hill in Brighton and not before time.
Thirty people built the camp on land not owned by them but by Brighton and Hove City Council.
There have been complaints from people nearby both about the camp and a series of noisy outdoor parties held on the hill.
The campers have a point when they say the council has not moved quickly enough to improve the area.
Council officials and councillors should now prepare a plan of action for making the former allotments more attractive so that people are encouraged to use them.
Then the campers can hire allotments and use them for growing organic vegetables just like hundreds of other people all over the city who are no trouble to anyone.
