Tonight (April 12), Brighton Jazz Club has one of its coolest, regular guests, saxophonist Martin Speake and his quartet.

Martin has led several special bands, all featuring the cool, peppery sound of his alto sax. The Mind And Time group operates in Ornette territory and his soon-to-be-revived Fever Pitch septet works in Eastern modes.

He also gigs in his international quartet with Paul Motian and Bob Stenson, and is to tour groups with Nikki Iles, Asaf Sirkis and Oren Marshall.

Tonight's line-up has been established for several years and is, not surprisingly, one of the best. With guitarist John Parricelli, bassist Steve Watts and drummer Tom Skinner on board, Speake's band guarantee some true quartet interplay.

At Brighton's Komedia, there's blues and soul combo Mo'Indigo led by vocalist Harry Lang, who are likely to perform material from their Nashville-produced CD.

The Greys in Southover Street, Brighton, begins its regular Sunday offerings with a chance to catch multi-talented string specialist Nick Pynn.

Local Spanish and classical guitar star Geoff Robb appears on Monday, and promises further delights with forays into jazz and Indian fusions alongside the traditional Spanish fare.

On Tuesday, Worthing's Hare And Hounds in Portland Road offers Rachel Bundy, vocalist with Something Cool and Rockin' In Rhythm, with her quartet.

On Wednesday night, Simon Haysom will be at The Harlequin, Brighton, playing inspired tenor sax with Terry Seabrook and his trio.

Thursday nights would not be the same without Philadelphia reedman Lawrence Jones and his All Stars at The Lion And Lobster in Sillwood Street, Brighton, a true jam session, repeated on Sunday afternoons.

Sterling jazz pianist Mark Edwards will be at the Prince Albert in Trafalgar Street, Brighton, for another quality performance with his band.
