Albion are lining up a new, improved long-term contract for goal king Bobby Zamora with an opt-out clause to join a Premiership giant.

They are also ready to offer better terms to transfer-listed captain Danny Cullip and several other key members of the squad promoted in successive seasons.

Zamora signed a four-year contract when Albion bought him from Bristol Rovers for £100,000 in August 2000.

That was replaced by a fresh four-yeal deal after he plundered 31 goals in all competitions during last season's Division Three title triumph.

Zamora has already gone one goal better this season. Now the Seagulls will try to tempt him to stay with a lucrative contract lasting at least as long, incorporating the chance to move on if the right offer for both club and player comes along.

Boss Peter Taylor revealed: "We are looking to get him a better personal deal and a better deal for the club.

"There will probably be a bit that if a massive Premiership team comes in we don't stand in his way.

"It will be a good contract for him to sign. If you improve a contract you have always got to extend it another year anyway, so it would be at least another four years."

Centre half Cullip has been on the transfer list at his own request since November. He has a year left on his current deal and Taylor said: "He is high up on the list to sort out.

"He is a very important player for us. He has got on with the job magnificently and been a good captain."

The likes of Michel Kuipers, Richard Carpenter, Paul Watson, Paul Brooker and broken leg victim Gary Hart are also likely to be offered new contracts. They all have a year left on their existing deals.

Taylor added: "I did not go and watch the reserves on Wednesday night because I am working out figures all the time to get my lists ready for Dick (Knight).

"A lot of players here that will be in the plans deserve new contracts. A lot of them have only got a year and they've just had two promotions on the spin, so to me they deserve it.

"Players here that are in the plans with a year to go should be on new contracts for Division One players."

Cullip will not collect the Second Division championship trophy if Albion beat Swindon at Withdean tomorrow.

Charlie Oatway and Paul Rogers have also skippered the side this season and the honour will fall to Rogers as club captain.
