Richard Carpenter is chasing another gong to complete a memorable campaign for Brighton and Hove Albion.

The midfielder has already been promoted for the fifth time in seven seasons with four different clubs and now he wants a Division Two championship medal.

The Seagulls need only three more points from the last two matches to be sure of the title.

Victory in their last home game tomorrow against mid-table Swindon will guarantee an almighty knees-up at a sold-out Withdean.

Carpenter said: "Everybody knows what is at stake. You don't get too many opportunities in your life to win consecutive championships. We have got to grab it with both hands.

"I was runner-up with Fulham, Gillingham and Cardiff and it makes a lot of difference finishing first rather than second. You get a nice little gold medal and it's nice to put on your CV that you are a champion."

Former Fulham stalwart Simon Morgan, on target for his third title in four years, said: "Sometimes you are just relieved to get promoted. But having got into the situation we are in now, everybody is desperate for the championship."

Daniel Webb, available again after a ban, loan signing Wayne Gray, Robbie Pethick, Nathan Jones and Phill Hadland are all vying to start in place of the suspended Lee Steele and broken leg victim Gary Hart.

Albion chief Peter Taylor, on the verge of his first championship as a manager or player, is hoping for a champagne performance in keeping with the occasion.

"Recent matches have been very tense, cup finals really because every points has been so important. Now we know we have definitely got promotion, so the players should play with a bit more freedom.

"It would just be nice to round off a great season by winning the League. That's what the players are certainly up for. Now they have got the bit between their teeth to go and be the best team in the Division."

A draw would be enough for the Seagulls if Reading and Brentford, the sides battling for the other automatic promotion spot, fail to win at home to Peterborough and away to QPR respectively.

"I've had two very good phone calls, one from Alan Pardew (Reading) and one from Steve Coppell (Brentford) saying well done," revealed Taylor. "I think if Brentford get a draw they are still in the driving seat.

"They would fancy themselves against Reading at home on the last day of the season and they have got the best goal difference."
