Staff and regulars at a pub have gone England crazy, covering the outside with St George's flags and the inside with red and white balloons.

The outside of the Clifton Arms pub has been decorated with red and white English flags, some painted on wooden signs, some proudly displayed in windows.

Others sway in the breeze over the doorway.

A single Union Flag, suspended from the middle of the black and white building, hangs over the pavement.

Managers Dave and Karen Ledger can be spotted raising a glass to the prosperity of the country while waving flags of their own and sporting red and white hats outside their pub in Tarring Road, Worthing.

Inside, customers can expect red and white streamers, bunting, balloons and yes, English flags.

And no one should be alarmed if they see the staff drinking pints of scarlet red beer. They are merely practising for the big occasion.

For those who have not guessed, the Ledgers' efforts are all in aid of celebrating St George's Day later this month and England playing in the World Cup in June.

Mrs Ledger said: "When people say we are mad, I say I know. But I think we should all celebrate St George's Day. It gives the country a boost.

"We are also quite a football- orientated pub. We will be showing all the World Cup matches live on a big screen and serving breakfasts every day of an England match."

The couple decided to paint the flags on the outside of the pub because they were waiting for new signage.

Since the decorations have gone up, customers have already started chanting "England, England, England" when passing the pub.

Mrs Ledger said: "Dave and I will wear the hats and also have extra flags and hats for customers."

As well as St George's Day and the World Cup the couple have a few other good reasons to celebrate this summer.

The Queen's Golden Jubilee is coming in June and their own football team, Clifton FC, won the Sussex Funday Premier League on Sunday.

Not to mention Brighton and Hove Albion's promotion to the First Division.

St George's Day is on April 23 and England's first World Cup match is on June 2.
