A former sponsor of Brighton and Hove Albion has axed almost 100 jobs in Sussex.

Bosses at Acco UK, which makes and distributes office products, plan to close its manufacturing and warehouse site in Alder Close, Eastbourne, at the end of May.

About 90 jobs will be lost at the company, which sponsored the Albion in the Eighties when it was known as NOBO.

Production operative Alan Clark, from Eastbourne, is among those affected.

He has worked full-time at the factory for two years and was employed through an agency for another two-and-a-half years.

He said: "There are so many other people who are going to be affected.

"We have drivers who deliver stock, cleaners who come in, even the man who comes and cuts the grass and sweeps the car park. We have been given three weeks to find jobs."

A spokesman for ACCO said the manufacturing side of the business would be moved to Peterborough and anyone wanting to move would be encouraged to do so.

He said bosses would talk to staff about redundancy pay.

Director of manufacturing Paul Wilkinson said: "The loss of employment is of course regretted but we are offering support to all employees to assist them to secure future employment locally."
