People will be able to surf the internet for free in every library in West Sussex by the end of the year.

Many of the county's 35 libraries already have computers installed with free access to the internet although there is a small charge for printing.

The initiative, sponsored by the Government-funded People's Network, aims to provide free internet access in every public library in the UK by December.

West Sussex County Council's library service received £730,000 of Lottery money to initiate the campaign and the council is providing additional funding.

Worthing, the largest library in the county, now has many of its 34 computers up and running and additional facilities at Chichester and Bognor will become available later this month.

Users can already access the internet in libraries at Angmering, Broadfield, Burgess Hill, Crawley, East Grinstead, East Preston, Ferring, Hassocks, Haywards Heath, Henfield, Lancing, Littlehampton and Pulborough.
